According to Ahmet Denker, a person may not start her/his career as a painter, but may come to life as a painter. Often, as in his story, s/he may have had to spend years in other fields before s/ he had the opportunity to devote herself/himself to art. In his teenage years, the challenges of modern life overtook the lure of artistic ambitions.
The emotional impulse that led mankind’s ancestors to paint on the walls of caves has not disappeared, despite all the compulsions of modern life; it is still there today, nudging us to say what lies at the root of human nature. This impulse is not unique to those who have had the opportunity to study painting academically and pursue a career as a professional painter, but to everyone who feels born to be a painter.
Ahmet Denker studied engineering and chose to pursue a career as an academic. This choice gave him the opportunity to travel to different countries around the world. The urge to paint drove him to museums and galleries in every city he visited.
In these places, he had the opportunity to meet the works of the great masters of painting in person. The immortal works of these great masters, none of whom are alive anymore, on the museum walls became the greatest guides of his journey as a painter.
A selection of Ahmet Denker’s recent works of painting, which he has been pursuing for more than 30 years, meets with art lovers on this site.
With the paintings on this website, the artist depicts the life story of the people she observes and the environment in which they live. This can sometimes be a belly dancer performing in a nightclub in Istanbul, or a young girl filling her basket with apples in the countryside of England. While the painting technique emphasizes the story, the psychological message behind it remains personal. A life story is a combination of intellectual and emotional components. While the intellectual component is learned, the emotional component is hidden within the human being and Ahmet Denker aims to emphasize this second component in his works. This self-taught artist has developed his own style by combining many ‘isms’ and has preferred to be expressionist and innovative.
